Lot 4520
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.15 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 320. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOA C Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left, holding Victory on globe in his right hand and eagle-headed parazonium in his left. Rev. VIRTVS EXRCIT / STR Two captives seated at base of vexillum inscribed VOT / XX. Cf. RIC 274 (for prototype). Somewhat smoothed, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. It copies RIC 274 (Treveri), but with spelling errors and rather crude execution.
